The press plays an active role in the process of forming public opinion and informing the society. The press, which acts as a bridge between the rulers and the ruled, has a very important function in democratic regimes as the "fourth power". Nowadays, with the development of new media, one of our most important goals is to train journalists with the equipment required for the journalism profession in both traditional media and new media environments and to transfer scientific knowledge in the field of journalism studies to our students. The main purpose of the Department of Journalism is; To respond to the media sector's need for qualified personnel, to train journalists who understand the ethical values of journalism, have developed language and expression skills, know the society they live in closely and have intellectual equipment.
Students who graduate from the Department of Journalism can work in various fields such as reporter, web designer, columnist, editor, news director, editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief in both traditional and new media organizations at local and national levels. In addition, our graduates can work as press consultants in various public and private sector organizations and work in "press and public relations" units.
Our department started providing education in the 2013-2014 academic year, and our course curriculum was updated in 2020 and rearranged in accordance with the digital media age. Our students can practice print and digital journalism at Fırat Haber Newspaper, one of the practice units of our Faculty; At the same time, they can participate in practices in the field of radio and TV journalism in Fırat TV and Radio Fırat units.
